Tips For A College Student Buying A Laptop

Choosing the best college laptops is more than just price. When heading off for college, keeping in touch and having the ability to do your studies are important. You may have a few questions such as “What kind of laptop should I buy?” and, “What exactly do I look for in a laptop?”

There are varying answers to these two questions. The first thing should be to choose which laptop is the right size for you. Most students will want a comfortable laptop tote for college to use around campus. You should look for a laptop that is lightweight versus getting a larger screen. You should also look at the brightness level on the screen. Some students tend to work outside on their laptop and the brightness level will play a very important part. Many students look for more of a fashion statement with their laptop than for actual work. If that’s the case then find a vendor that sells a choice of colors and designs on the laptop.

The next thing one should look for is the price. Most college students will want to purchase cheap laptops. However, if you wish to store a large volume of music or other data collections you will need to have a larger hard drive. If you will be watching movies on your laptop, you will need to find one with a DVD player and maybe purchase one with a larger screen for easier viewing. If you happen to be a gamer, then you will want to go for the higher end specs, such as more processor power, more powerful video card, and bigger hard drive with more ram and drive space. You can even try to check out a promotion, such as free laptops with a purchase.

The last thing you should be concerned with would be accessories. You will need a bag to tote and protect your laptop moving from place to place and even to store it in your room. You may wish to purchase one with a built-in web cam to keep in touch and view loved ones at home. If you want the best laptops for college students, make sure the computer has a built-in wireless network.

Improve Laptop Performance

Buying the best college laptops means more than just having the hardware to do the job, but you also need to remember that the speed is just as important. One laptop that I bought was loaded for everything. It had over four GB’s of RAM, 640 GB hard drive and so much more.

My point is that the laptop had everything it need to travel though the internet at breakneck speed, but when I would use it the performance was nothing to brag about. I spoke to the salesman and he said that I might have my setting not configured correctly. I asked him what I needed to do, but all he could do was to offer a website that I should visit and download a small program that would alleviate the issues. I went home and went to the site as instructed. After looking over the site and it’s program, I decided not to do it. I won’t even tell you the name in case you might think of going to that site. I’ve heard of other programs or site that you can help you do this, but if it’s not supported by Microsoft or Dell I won’t even think about it.

I spoke to a few more of friends and associates and after a couple of inquiries someone told how I could go through the Windows default settings as well as the default sounds. Doing that plus a few other things have helped my computer run at lightning speed. It’s amazing that Windows doesn’t inform the consumer that these options are available to improve performance. Then again why should they, It gets you to think that maybe you need more hardware for the unit so it can run better and faster. What works for one laptop may not help another. It seems that different settings effect laptop differently depending on the hardware that has been installed. Go though your default settings on other laptop and try different things to see what helps and what doesn’t.

Best College Laptops

There is such a wide range of offers when seeking a laptop that choosing the right one can be confusing. Capabilities, design, communication tools, software and features are so varied from one to the other. A few tips I learned in my own laptop for college will save students in similar situation some headaches when choosing best college laptops.

First thing to do is determine what you really need and want. This way you will narrow your options and you can seek online or at a retailer and ask specifically. If you simply mention “Laptop” you will get drowsy getting so many offers.

So, decide how much money you are able to spend for a start.

What operative system do you feel comfortable working with? What software do you need for your work? Consider you will work many hours at it and will be probably connecting with other peers and share information and files. Set your priorities: a good word processor, spreadsheets, databases or a good image editor.

When carrying your laptop, how many hours of battery life will you need? Think of purchasing an extra battery.

Take care of your eyes. Do you prefer a reflective screen or a non-glossy one?

Personally I suggest you to ask for an optical drive. I opted for a DVD-CD/RW. You can save lots of information you could use later on your laptop or in any other computer. You can save and carry e-books. Besides, you can use it to watch movies or listen to music during your free time.

Will you be playing games on it? If you are a games fan and are always playing the latest ones you might need a graphics accelerator and a good video card as well as a high-resolution screen.

Hard-drive space. You will probably want a lasting laptop. So you should better spend a bit more and get a bigger hard-drive, not less than 120 GB.

Internet connections. Will you be spending much time online? Ask for a good wireless connectivity and be online anywhere.

Will you use it for video conferences? A built in web cam will be useful as well as a good micro and speaker system.

A personal advice is to choose a brand with good warranty and customer support service. One never knows when you will need it.
