I’ve always owned an Apple MacBook, now working on my second. The first one was given to me when I graduated high school as a graduation gift. My intended major has been graphic arts for quite some time now, and everyone I’ve spoken with has always reported MacBooks to be the best for Photoshop. In my experience, this tends to be true. I completely agree that the Apple MacBook is the best college laptop. It's completely easy to use and not only good for students in graphic design majors, but they can run any software any student could possibly need.

Affordability has always been an issue for MAC but this laptop allows an entry into the MAC world for college students. As a graphic designer I can attest that these are hands down the best computers for that type of interest. So if you are a student interested in entering a graphics field this is a no-brainer. The battery is better for sure but it does get hot so you might need to also opt for some sort of cooling station.

I would definitely recommend Apple Macbook for any college students. The reasons are endless. First of all, Macbook is compatible with Microsoft Office and other Windows applications, which every student knows, are often impossible to do without (writing essays and papers, creating spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations). When used at school or home, the laptop is very easy to connect to any wireless network without the usual hassle of setting up and configuration. This feature comes especially handy on-campus when working in a library in break between classes. One last but not least feature worth mentioning is battery life. Macbook, when fully charged, gives about 10 hours of uninterrupted power since most of the time, it is difficult to find a plug on campus.

Beyond the availability of the extended warranty and the incredible sleek design already mentioned, there are many reasons to buy a Mac. Firstly, the user friendliness, as evidenced by seeing three year olds at the Apple Store working on them without a hitch. Also, the lack of susceptibility to viruses, you do not need to purchase add on software protection. Most importantly, for great support. You can book in for a free fifteen minute Genius appointment for any issues that arise or, if interested, buy 52 private lessons for $100. Once you go Mac you'll never go back!

I can't agree more with Patricia. If you go with the MacBook, make sure and get the AppleCare warranty with it. I had it with my previous laptop and got my hard drive replaced twice after it failed. I didn't get it for my MacBook, and I've been regretting it. There were some design flaws with earlier models that they seem to have worked out by now - CDs had a tendency to get stuck in the drive - and I don't want to pay Apple Store rates to fix it. With AppleCare, your student won't have to worry about repairs.

Also, it's way cooler than a Dell.

This article/blog/etc. really helped me make a decision about what laptop to buy. I'm using the Macbook and would really recommend it for college students. But because I'm going away to college I'm also purchasing a warranty for my laptop. I think the article should include links to buying warranties for laptops.
